What started this theme for me is every night before the kids go down Mark and I have always sang this song to our kiddos.. it started off this way when Garrett was an itty bitty baby.. then we started singing You Are My Sunshine and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star then those two songs plus the I Will Love You Forever saying.. and so on and so on.. there are nights where we would sing those plus say the saying and sing ABCs plus Ba Ba Black Sheep.. seriously.. its funny.. Drew for a while was always requesting more and more, but lately he is now wanting books and just a few songs.. but of course You Are My Sunshine is always there! Now the singing is less but I am sure Trevor will have his day when he requests Daddy to sing more songs!
So because this song is such a huge part of us.. like having to sing it over and over in the car on the way home from Kingman cause its the only thing that keeps baby from screaming his head off.. I figured I want a You Are My Sunshine inspired office.. oh the husband was THRILLED! We pulled it off and I wanted to share how for those of you that are interested..
First we painted the wall white.. then we measured the center of the wall and made a dot. Then with a measure tape and a pencil we went up the height that we wanted to be.. so it would be a perfect sun shape we acted as if we were tracing a protractor with the pencil... I held the tape measure at the bottom while Mark made the protractor design {totally Mark's math measure sense.. I wouldn't have known to do that}.. we taped off the circle part of the sun by tearing one inch thick tape and placing it on the line that we drew..
Then we made a big protractor on a poster board with our lines measured out a few different ways, but it worked best to be two inches for color purposes on the wall.. here is the shot of that.. as you see we tried one inch.. one and a half.. but decided on two so that my colors would be even..
We taped it up on the wall then got out our trustee laser and taped away..
I didn't like the way the single tape looked so we added double tape to the sun rays to give it more..
After the taping is over.. we painted over the tape with the white to seal the tape.. our wall is SUPER textured and I read on a blog that if you do this step it will help with the bleeding.. we let that fully dry over night
Put a piece of tape on where you want to paint gray and started with yellow..
Then gray..
Now take the tape off when the paint is sort of wet.. and when you pull off pull towards the color.. if that makes sense.. then fill in your spots after..
and VIOLA amazing sunshine wall.. the colors I used are Behr the gray is Elephant Skin and the yellow was Citrus.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new office can't wait to finish it up!
**I have the best most patient husband ever.. and I LOVE that I have these crazy ideas in my head and he figures out how to pull it off.. don't mean to brag but he is awesome.. and we make a great team!!!!
